Excellent rate of attendance in Porteras Abiertas

05/11/2008 - Under the “Building Bridges” topic, more than 1,200 people attended the 1st Open Gates Workshop carried out in the facilities of La Cautiva by EL TEJAR and the Rural Association of Río Negro.

The first series of "Porteras Abiertas" (Open Gates) in Grecco, Uruguay, widely surpassed all expectations. With more than 1,200 attendants, producers, technicians and companies, 20 commercial stands, and the support of more than 40 agricultural-related companies, the Workshop was a great success. Some local authorities were also present, as Omar Lafluf.

The lunch was in charge of the Commission of the School Nº 4 of Grecco, with a firm commitment displayed by the teachers and parents.

"Porteras Abiertas" is similar to the traditional workshop “Tranqueras Abiertas” performed in Argentina, which allowed attendants to “live” the network made by EL TEJAR in Uruguay and which showed the rural development made by the Rural Association of Río Negro over the last 17 years.

Farmers showed all technology applied to cropping as well as a smart management of productive environments and soil conservation. The soybean intercropping technology over an already gleaned wheat crop was one of the most interesting demonstrations. Besides, there were interesting visits to corn, soybean and wheat cropping, where the integrated pest management and the combination of the latest agricultural tools are carried out by a team of young professionals.

After the presentations, in the module “Connections Among Activities”, attendants interchanged ideas, made suggestions, got to know each other and shared visions with the agricultural, livestock and dairy areas.

Enrique Baliño’s presentation (of DESEM Young Entrepreneurs) aroused interest in the role of the companies in the development of the entrepreneur spirit of the communities, and encouraged attendants to participate actively in that field.

The closing was in charge of Priest F. Pigurina who talked about the important role of the companies in the whole community.
