07/05/2009 - As from February, the El Tejar’s teams worked together in the prevention and eradication of the disease.
Over the last months, the cities of San Marcos in Bolivia and Charata in the northern Argentina were seriously affected by the dengue.
Teams from El Tejar worked together with grassroots organizations and public entities to cooperate in the prevention and eradication of the disease.
Boris Cuadros, Nivardo Guzmán, Bernardo Akamine and Saúl Menacho from the Bolivian Business Unit (UN Bolivia) approached the San Marcos community to help those families threatened by the disease. There, they taught home-made tools to fight the transmitting mosquito, advised people on how to protect themselves and helped them in the fumigation of houses.
In March, in Charata, a fumigation backpack was bought to fumigate houses and schools. Also, posters with prevention advice where delivered among schools and useful-information bulletins where handed out in the streets, with the assistance of traffic officers.
The UNNEA Team (North-eastern Argentine Business Unit) that accompanies Germán Mojica is helping the community by taking part in neighbourhood meetings to do their bit in this fight against dengue.
